New Country Director appointed to WWF-DRC

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Martin Kabaluapa, the new County Director of WWF-DRC who took office on 2 September 2019.

Martin joins WWF-DRC from World Food Programme (WFP) Burundi where he was the Deputy Country Director. His role included implementation of humanitarian programmes across vast areas in Burundi and also contributing to significant fundraising efforts in the country.

Prior to that, Martin was the Office Area Manager at the WFP in Sudan, where he implemented a food assistance programme that targeted more than one million internally-displaced persons and refugees in West and Central Darfur States. Martin also worked on short-term assignments with WFP in DRC, Lesotho, Italy and South Sudan.

Before joining WFP, Martin coordinated Purchased for Progress (P4P) Programmes in Mali and Kenya. Before this, he worked in Ottawa Canada as a Deputy Director at the Canadian Institutes for Health and Research (CIHR) and as a Portfolio Manager at the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC).

Martin brings over 30 years of a rich and diversified experience in research, humanitarian and development roles in international organizations including Oxfam. He has also worked across all parts of Africa, Europe, Canada and DRC where he started his career.

Martin holds an Msc. in Agricultural Engineering and a PhD. in Agronomy and Soils from Auburn University (USA) and several other certificates.

We also take this opportunity to thank Juan Seve, who has been the Interim Country Director, for his leadership during the transition period.

We wish success to Martin and Juan in their endeavours.
