With the support of the Swedish Cooperation, WWF-DRC works to establish a green alliance with local communities through the implementation of an intervention at the scale of the Luki-Mangroves landscape in the Kongo Central Province

Our work in the Luki-Mangroves landscape aims to contribute to the maintenance of the ecological integrity of the Luki Biosphere Reserve and the Mangrove Marine Park by increasing economic opportunities and benefits of rural communities.

WWF's work

Due to its large population and close economic ties with Kinshasa, Kongo-Central is one of the provinces where human impact on the natural environment is highest. Reconciling development objectives and the protection of natural resources is crucial and urgent.

WWF’s work in the Kongo Central Province, particularly the area surrounding Luki Biosphere Reserve, during twenty years suggests that local people are not a problem or an obstacle to conservation, but rather part of the solution.
