Kinshasa, June 25, 2025 — The World Wide Fund for Nature in the Democratic Republic of Congo (WWF-DRC) will organize a stakeholder consultation workshop from Thursday, June 26 to Friday, June 27, 2025, in Kinshasa. This event marks a key step towards finalizing WWF-DRC's new national conservation strategy for the period 2026-2030.

This initiative is part of the global process launched by the WWF network to develop a shared roadmap towards 2030, taking into account both national realities and international commitments related to biodiversity conservation and the fight against climate change.

In line with its long-standing principles of consultation and inclusion, WWF-DRC aims to actively involve all relevant stakeholders in shaping this new strategy. During the two-day workshop, representatives from government institutions, national and international NGOs, and civil society organizations will have the opportunity to review and discuss the vision, objectives, and strategic priorities of WWF-DRC’s upcoming plan.

Since opening its office in the DRC in 2004, WWF-DRC has been working alongside the Congolese government and numerous partners to preserve the country’s exceptional biodiversity while ensuring the well-being of local communities and Indigenous Peoples.

The 2026-2030 strategy contributes to both global and national commitments, including the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and the Tropical Forest Forever Facility. At the national level, the strategy supports government priorities on the sustainable management of natural resources through national strategies for biodiversity, peatlands, protected areas, and the 30x30 conservation target currently under development.

Discussions during the workshop will focus on the four main pillars of WWF-DRC's conservation work: species conservation, forest conservation, freshwater ecosystem protection, and cross-cutting programs such as environmental and social safeguards, improving the well-being of local communities and Indigenous Peoples, and policy advocacy.

The workshop aims to gather feedback, recommendations, and proposals from participants to strengthen the relevance and effectiveness of the future strategy. It also seeks to foster collective commitment to implementing a strategy that goes beyond environmental concerns, contributing to stability, sustainable development, and the well-being of communities across the DRC.
